Default Wiper issues today !!!!

Its a 98 civic lx and the problem is this, sometimes while wipers are on they dont go all the way down on the down stroke, and when they do it makes a slapping sound because the drivers one hits the passenger one and the pass- hits the hood cowl area. Then on the way home tonight it started wiping past the windshiend and broke my new wiper off!! I tried repositioning the arms by taking them off and ran the switch then back off to ensure they would be in the park position, but theres obiously somthing really wrong with them. Its storming outside so Im looking for any info on what to look for when the rain stops so I can fix this promptly. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Check to see if the splines where the wiper arms bolt on are stripped.

If the arms are secure on the shafts, the plastic bushings in the linkage could be broken or worn out. I think the entire linkage needs to be replaced as a unit.

I second this motion... its a relatively simple unit... and pretty much works, or does not..

Si I took it apart today and the bushings are shot.. I cant afford $200 from the dealer, does anyone know where to get a good used set or a cheaper place to buy them. The junkyards here dont have any cars newer than 93 for some reason........

Check online dealers like honadautomotiveparts. I wouldn't mess with a used one, it's already going to be rather worn anyway.
