Wont go into gear (help)
Car: 1991 Honda Civic Hatch 1.5L D15B1 4 speed
Story: So I got into my car today and pushed the clutch in to start it and it made a pop sound and the pedal sunk to the floor. I popped the hood to check out the clutch cable and everything seemed to be fine. Once I removed the the clutch cable from the transmission I noticed that there is atleast 1 inch of play, back and forth, on the bracket where the clutch cable connects to. I dont think theres supposed to be any play at all to my knowledge. I tried pulling up as hard as I can on that bracket that goes into the tranny where the clutch cable connects but I wasnt able to have enough strength to make the clutch "go in" (either because somethings broke, or made for the clutch cable to pull it in easier and I just cant do it physically)
Q's: Could have something broke inside the transmission? or is the play normal and maybe something is wrong with the cable? or what can this possibly be?
Thanks in advance

Most likely the cable broke. Try to pull the center out of the cable at the clutch end. Pull tension on the cable and have someone press the clutch pedal to see if it moves at your end.
One inch of play on the lever is normal. You are just moving the throwout bearing back away from the clutch assembly. It takes a lot of force to overcome the springs in the clutch cover. If something had broke inside the bell housing, the lever would come all the way up without stopping.
