Default z6 v-tec head on d16y7 non v-tec bottom end?

I got my 95 eg with the stcok d16y7 bottom end (non v-tec) but the guy swapped the stock y7 head with a z6 v-tec head. Now i have a knock and i'm thinking its because of the non v-tec ecu that caused the problem. Any thoughts?

The only problem with the non v-tec ecu is the fact that v-tec wont engage without the right ecu and solenoid, wiring, etc. what kind of knock are you talking about? Is it coming from the bottom of the motor or is a light knock up by the valve cover area?

I believe it is a bottom end knock, possibly crank shaft (not for sure). I know that v-tec wont engage without the v-tec ecu which is what i'm thinking the problem is but im not sure.

I dont think the ecu has any part in the fact that it is knocking. Tons of people do the mini-me swap like yours and don't upgrade the ecu until they have the money. The motor should run fine with the ecu you have.

I know the rings are probably going bad as well because it does burn some oil so that could be another problem...

I'v thought that but also have been told possibly a bad crank shaft bearing. I just want to make sure the non v-tec ecu is going to be ok to use with the z6 v-tec head.
