thinking about buying a civic
i am a newbie to this site and am currently thinking about purchasing a civic. i currently have a mustang but i got a ticket the other day and i think my insurance is going to kill me now. i will probably have like $7000 to spend so i was hoping i could find a 1999 or 2000. i am not sure what to get though. a si, ex or whatever else there is. what would you recommend to me? i do not want to do a motor swap but i read some stuff on doing a turbo and i am thinking about doing a diy turbo kit. so what car would be good or me to turbo? i would like to make it faster then my mustang so over 200 fwhp would be my goal.
thanks

RE: thinking about buying a civic
hi, welcome to the forum. you can find a 1999-2000 civic for $7,000 but its going to be considerably slower than your mustang. your going to have to put at least another $1,000-$2,000 to make it go past 200 fwhp. the trade off with buying a civic is the miles per gallon your going to get. if you want something fast right off the bat then consider purchasing a si model. a 2000 civic si comes at around 150-160 hp.

thats another reason i am considering looking at a civic because of the gas mileage. i am going to start college this fall and the college i am going to is pretty far from my house. but if i turboed a stock si what would the horsepower be if i ran like 7or 8 lbs of boost? also, when i am looking for a car, how many miles is to many? i am wanting to do stuff to it so like under 100,000 miles or will they last longer than that with stuff done to them?

i don't know about the turbo charger, but adding a 4-2-1 header, v-tec fuel controler and an upgraded cam shaft kit can add like 15-20 hp. a 2000 si civic is a pretty sweet ride by itself.
in terms of the mileage, i think the lower the better, but there are people on this forum that have successfully tuned an engine with 100,000 miles on it. it all depends on the time you put into it and the experience you have with cars.
