The Best way to get a turbo?
I have $700 right now set aside for what ever. I thinking of finally steppin up into the the big leagues and enter the magical realm of forced induction. What is the best thing to do: Save up and buy a complete kit? or Buy individual pieces here and there. Also, I know that to get the most out of your turbo you need to get your ecu tuned, but is that really neccisary right away? Because I probably won't have money after this for awhile.
It's all about research. Before you do anything go read all of Sovxietday's stickys. Youll know alot more. Lots of people think that it's better to buy a kit, but that's the more expensive and safer way i'd say if you don't know that much. But thats why you gotta do your homework. Building your own kit is cheaper and better way when you know things. Go read up on the stickies about forced induction. My first indicate that you haven't researched enough is your last question. Yes you need to be fully tuned. You wouldnt wanna blow your freshly boosted engine. I'm definatly not the most knowledgable person for turbos. But i can get you started. Your going to need to talk to people that have done it. If you are turboing a D, Sovxietday is definatly your man. Ofcourse theres more people, but he definatly knows his stuff. Forty04 is also very knowledgable on D series. Seeing as Remmy has a boosted B16, hes going to specialize in B series intalls. Just search the forum and find out things.
Sorry about the Long post
Cliffs - Do your research, Talk to people on the forum that have experiance in boosting hondas.

Well im not an expert by any means on FI. what i do know is that you are going to need a lot more than $700 dollars for a turbo kit. You need the turbo kit or parts if you are piecin one together, you will need an ECU and possibly the OBD1 conversion harness, you are going to probably want some internals such as new connecting rods (if you have seen stock ones to aftermarket, you'll know what i mean), new fuel injectors, maybe a new throttle body and fuel rail, plus other stuff. Also, you are going to have to pay to have it tuned which costs money as well. As for a kit or piecin it together, I think thats up to you, based on what you want and your budget. Just please dont get an ebay kit. If any of this is wrong, someone who knows more, please correct me
yestuning your car immediately after installing a turbo is a must unless you want your car to run like s*** and possibly smoke your motor.
piecing a kit together is def. the cheapest way to go but do your research and make sure each piece is a quality one. it sounds like you are on a really tight budget and just so you know when you boost, stupid little things can wrong so make sure you have some extra cash set awayjust in case.

alright first and foremost go and read what Sov has wrote. then when you want to know about a turbo kit go and read this: https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_40.../tm.htm#400322
now lets see to answer some questions. 700 bucks will get you a crappy used turbo kit that you dont know what it has been threw. would not suggest that. 2nd, you will need to get the ecu tuned ASAP, i have been driving around, but have no hit boost yet. if you stay out of boost then you will be fine without a tune, but i would not suggest it for too long. save up until you have about 3k and then start buying your parts. for now i would research though.

Research Research Research! Another thing I neglected to mention was that, you don't need to get new internals. If you are running low amounts of boost 6-8 PSI, you won't need to. I seriously recomend you read the link Tyler just posted so helpful. Oh and he is too. Another thing, is to go read the project section. Full of knowledge.
piece together your own with some quality parts and it will last so much longer than if you spent your 700 on a ssautocrap. I have some parts to get you started if your interested
If you look around, do your homework, and DIY- you can put together a home made turbo kitfor $700. I did it for like $400, but I already had a chipped ECU... And it's62% ghetto... butit's boosted.
