confusion about turbo with a d16...
I have a 98 civic ex auto that i plan on selling to either get a 99-00 ex or an si.
I dont know what i should do because i have this turbo kit that came with the car when i bought it i think its xs-power or something. its knock off brand i guess
but i dont know if i should sell my car and the turbo kit and use that money to get an si if i can find one. or to get the cheaper ex and keep my turbo kit and use it on that car.
my money isnt that high right now also, and ive heard that turbo'ing a d engine is cheaper then the si
so what i am asking is
should i get a new manual ex and keep my turbo and use that on it / sell the turbo and get/build a better one
or
sell my car and the turbo kit for an si. maybe later on turbo'ing the b-engine

sell that civic u have n the turbo put down on a 99-00 si
instead of sohc vtec ex u can have DOHC VTEC si
way bettr in the end n knock off turbo aint worth it save 2 grand n installation fees n get a real turbo in
my opinion if ne thing go for si

My vote goes towards selling both your car and the turbo kit and buying a 96-00 EX, and boosting it properly. The EX is going to be much less expensive than an Si, and the y8 is a very capable engine, not to mention it responds fairly well to forced induction. A decent turbo setup (if pieced together) should be between $1500 and $2500, depending on a few things (new or used parts, turbo size, internal/external wastegate, etc). As far as which is cheaper to actually turbo, it'll be about the same cost. Like I said, though, the initial cost of the Si will be higher than the EX.
It costs like $500-1000 to do the conversion yourself, depending on where you get parts from. If you were to sell the car and then buy the same one with a manual transmission, you might even make money because the auto is worth more according to Kelley Blue Book and will be easier to sell.
