going turbo
Alright, I've decided that I'm going to buy a replacement d16y8 with lower miles and turbo it instead of going the swap GSR route (I know I change my mind a lot). I've been researching swapping information and now I need to start focusing on turbo. The problem is for me is that this car is my only car, and I dunno if I should do it myself or just get it done at a shop. I'm guessing that I probably wont be able to get it all done in a weekend by reading other peoples projects with it and all the bumps in the road. Seems to happen to even the veterans. I think instead of taping myoil pan i'll just buy an aftermarket one pre done, what other things should I look out for? I know this is a loaded question. Would I need a FMIC if I get a small turbo and run on 6-7 psi? I hear it can be a pain to mount it to the front bumper. I'm going to put foglights in soon and i'm sure that would complicate it.
Flip what kinds of hang ups are you dealing with? Is it just not getting all the right parts or is it something else?
I've got about $1500 saved up so far. i'm going to have to get my tierods fixed so there goes a bunch of my reserve :P. I'll prolly need to wait untill I have like $2500 right. [&:]
i'm excited tho just thinking the thought of turboing a D

Flip.....are you talking to me? With me its just a money situation. I'm getting everything together, requesting a week off work and then installing it all. I'd get a FMIC no matter what. You're probably gonna run a straight pipe horizontally through your front bumper, just get a nice little intercooler and put it in the piping right there.
If i was you though, i'd completely build the y8, get the whole turbo setup ready to go, everything installed that you can before the swap, then like i said find a free week, pull the engine and drop the new one in, swap the ECU's and then install the rest of the stuff you couldn't install beforehand. $1500 is a GREAT start, and if you have a steady job i bet you'd be able to make up the unknown costs that are gonna pop up. If you're getting like $200-$300 paychecks each week even, that'll do you fine IMO.

who else is named Flip [8D]
How come you think I should completely build the engine? I'm only planning on 6-7psi on a small turbo. I was thinking of maybe.. maybe putting in a more aggresive camshaft. I hear the rods are the d's weakest points but unless your boosting over 10 psi I thought theywere safe.
ya for the job part... currently unemployed [&:]. So moneys slim right now lol. But I'm just planning ahead for down the road.
