Default Turbo?

Hey guys, I'm still new to this site and to honda engines.

I was thinking about adding a turbo to my engine but was advised by my mechanic that it wouldn't be a good idea because it's a sohc. He said if I wanted to add a turbo then I should swap to a dohc engine.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Has anybody added a turbo to a sohc?

I have a 96 Civic EX coupe, manual with no mods.

Thanks!

your mechanic is dumb. It's perfectly acceptable. Boosting a SOHC can be damn quick, and still reliable with the right parts and a good tune. Do some searching around this site and you should find plenty of info about "boosting a D series"

Good luck, you've got a LOT of worthwhile reading ahead of you

chances are, you will wind up with a more reliable setup SOHC, because the three or four grand that would have gone to the swap can now be used to build the engine...
