Turbo question
This might sound stupid. But my friend told me he saw a Supra with 4 turbos on it. and also another question is that will a Twin turbo spool faster than a single larger turbo? thanks
First this needs to be in the turbo section. Ive never heard of a supra with 4 turbos....i guess it could be possible...lots of money and research. Waste IMO, and a single larger turbo will have more lag than say a t25 or a small turbo
The technology to build a really efficient large turbo came around right after supras and skylines (and most other TT japanese cars) came about. With a modern turbo, you only need one. Four is either for show or a dyno queen. I'd call BS because there's not really a good way to put 4 turbos on 6 cylinders. Top Secret has aV12 supra that may have quad turbos...but I really doubt your friend saw that.
the Veyron has 4 turbos...a supra usually has a normal number of them...like 2 or 1. You can put 17 turbos in line if you wish, but there's no reason to do it... I say your buddy is BS-ing you.
Supra with 4 turbo's is not likely. At least not the common I6. Infact, the stock twin turbo setups are crappy because they're sequential, as in one feeds the other.
The only... ONLY way to do twin turbo is to have a turbo being fed off of it's own bank of cylinders. V6/V8 cars do this well. Bank 1 will feed one turbo, bank 2 will feed the other turbo. This will create the best possible powerband vs all cylinders powering one single larger turbo.
Twin turbo's on I4s is pretty useless. There's not enough displacement to spool two seperate turbines and still make decent power. Ultimately for max power a single turbo is the best solution anyway, it will be at the sacrifice of spool and powerband but a single large turbo will always make more power than multiple smaller ones.
