It doesnt scare me i am just trying to figure out what ill need and what its going to take to get it all done, and how long it may take me, i know a turbo install can take a few days so im probably gonna get some of this stuff first like the intercooler and stuff and try to fit it and make everything a quicker install so i dont take 5 days or something like that

I guess the other question is will a turbo setup effect emissions testing? it will be my dd and i would like it to be able to pass inspection. Also is it hard to find a manifold that will allow me to keep all the stock heating and A/c?

If you have a d17 then you are going to have to have a manifold custom made for you, I don't think anyone manufactures them for your engine. You also are not going to pass emissions.

Do you lose significant power if the wastegate isnt welded back into the manifold? I am thinking about getting an externally gated turbo but then i obviously have to get the wastgate tubing welded back onto the manifold correct?

you have two choices with the wastegate dump tube:

1) Connect it back to the exhaust system (not to the manifold, but the downpipe). If possible, have the dump tube connect to the exhaust system in a way that doesn't disrupt the flow.
2) Don't connect it back to the exhuast system. This way, the exhaust flow won't be disrupted at all. The exhaust will be louder when the wastegate is open, though. Also, I'm fairly sure this is completely illegal.

It's pretty much as simple as that.

So i have to get it welded back to the exhaust pipe huh? would you recommend doing it to the connector to the downpipe off of the turbo?

well, you have downpipe connecting the turbo to the exhaust system. You'll want to have the wastegate's dump tube welded to the downpipe somewhere along the length of the downpipe. It's like anything with the exhaust system: you want it set up so it doesn't affect the flow very much, meaning you want the tubes to connect at a small angle (think like 22.5 degrees or less.... note: I am not actually naming a number to go by, but just giving a small angle number so you know what I'm talking about).

And if the emissions laws aren't very strict in your area, I'm sure you could get away with just having the dumb tube vent out the side of the bumper (I've seen it done before) or something so it doesn't connect back to the exhaust stream at all.
