Default Quality strut replacement for general road use + potholes and speedbumps

So this is my first post here, "Hi all"

Anyway, I was told I need to have my struts replaced. They're still fine, but I've never had a great ride when going over speed bumps, et al. I had a Toyota Accord that handled them fine and comfortably. I'm sure that in even nicer cars, the suspension would be even smoother.

My question is, can I get that same quality with my Honda Civic 2001 LX? If so, what are my options?

What I have found is that there are several options in my price range (~$100 per strut). The KYB GR-2 and the Tokico Blues. What I have read though is that these are essentially OE replacements. I don't necessarily just want a replacement if my ride is still as rough going over those bumps.

Is there a better brand than the KYB or Tokico?

More background info: I'm your basic average driver - my car rarely, if ever, gets over 80mph. My neighborhood is FILLED with speed bumps and stop signs (it's ridiculous). Part of my travel goes through a river! Okay, maybe not a river, but the stream of water that goes down that hill creates a 2 inch pothole that's about 6-12" across every few months.

I have the KYB GR-2s in my Mazda MX6 GT and they are a bit spongy - nice ride but not the best for high-speed cornering. Maybe that's what you are looking for? They do sell an adjustable gas strut:

KYB AGX Adjustable

but they are bit over your budget. In theory, you should be able to adjust these to your liking.

Bilsteins are probably the best quality shocks/struts you can buy. Certainly, they are worth the money if you intend to keep your car for a long time. They are available for your 01, I believe.
