Generally, leaking fluid is a bad sign, it usually means that there is a broken seal somewhere. Check the P.S. fluid and make sure it isn't brown and stuff.

 

Well I am not sure if my rack is bad or not, thats what I am here to try and help find out.

Can anyone explain what is a "Variable assist rack and pinion, " and is it possible that my civic has one.

I have managed to summarise my problem as having inconsistant steering assist while travelling at the same speed on a consistant surface. Any ideas??
