Default Tire "numbers" question

Ok so I've finally made a decision on my rim choice.. I am getting a Konig Unknown 17" for my 02 civic.. I went to Autozone today and I told them I needed a set with tires... My tire size right now is 185/65/15r.... to my calculation, in order to match my diameter with 17 inch rims, I need 205/45/17r... However, they told me 205/40/17r is what they will give me.. So I thought "im going to lose at least 1/2" of rubber with that size" and my odometer reading will be off atleast 3 - 4km/ph... I saw people here that has 205/40/17r(like Mill$vic) so i thought might be ok. what do you guys think? And do I have to buy different lug nuts for my set? or my lug nut will fit on these?

go to 1010tires.com and use the tire size calculator to see what the real differences are.

Don't compare your tire size with someone who has a totally different generation car. Mill$ is supposed to have smaller tires than you.

If your going with 17's, your gonna have to sacrafice some rubber, its just a fact of life, but thats not to say that its going to affect the ride that bad. Moving from a 45 to a 40 is not that huge of step, in fact I doubt you would notice the change.

Whatever a dealer suggests is usualy the best idea, because they know that it will fit, and if it doesn't, they will have to find a set that will.

Lug nut kit? Your lug nuts will fit fine with any wheel.

go with the tire size the wheeldealer says.. they usually know what they're talking about.

As far as the lugs go, the stocks won't fit every set of wheels (well, they don't fit my wheels anyway lol). I'd keep the stock lugs and try to put the wheels on. If the lugs don't fit with the wheel, go to Autozone and find out what lugs you need.
