Weird sound

transmission as well as clutch, are both located on the passenger side of engine bay (k series is another story)

You can bet your sweet *** on this one! It is the CV shaft bearings. I drove my 94' Civic for 12 years and I have heard my car fart in the middle of the night from all the way across the house. I'm not sure what the tolerance is on the CV shaft, but if it is a "sorta kinda popping noise", that's where my money is!
