You doin the work yourself? Cause i'd rather do the swap in a manual trans on my current car than go and buy another civic with a manual.

Im from australia and rebuilt auto's are huge here. it is true that auto's are mush better than manuals at the drag strip as it eliminates the clutch and manual gear change making for better times ( the fastest drag cars in the world are auto's) but it depends on what you want to do with your car. we have stage 1,2,3 shift kits here which basically consists of a new auto valve body new clutch packs and solenoids for auto's pretty hard to fit but if your confiddent its not impossible. i owned a V8 before i saw the light and got my civic and i did the stage 2 conversion on the auto and it absolutely hammered the manual versions of my car. so there is light at the end of the tunnel for automatic owners.

If you get a swap don't you have to get a new ECU too? How much would the actual new tranny, work, and every other work on the car to make it manual cost?

91' hatchback auto trans. daily driver .....gas mileage is about the same as manual and since I don't race to work every day the auto works just fine. Synthetic trans fluid will make it live longer but it's expensive oil. Keep clean oil in it and a clean filter....should be no problem.
