Tonight i had a very unfortunate event. I was parking my car, and i put the car in reverse braked then i put the car in drive and pressed on the accelerator. This was followed by some very nasty grinding coming from what seemed like the transmission. The car did not move. I put the car in reverse and there was more grinding. I put the car in park and more grinding. After i put the car in D4, the grinding went away but when i put the RPM up it would grind again, but when i put the RPM down it would stop grinding. Upon furthur examination of the front of the car i found that the driver side axle (left side) had snapped (broken into two pieces) about 2-3 inches away from the CV joint. Does any1 have any idea what the problem could be? My gut instinct is that the tranny has burned out but when i looked at the axle, i just became confused. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
