Default Help!(front axle)

my name is Chris and recently failed my inspection AGAIN, one of my boots on my left axle has torn and is throwing grease EVERYWHERE, he never told me my options so i had to go look it up, either i replace the boot or the entire left axle. oh btw i had my car inspected earlier this month and they never pointed out the possible tearing, meaning its been like that for at most 3 weeks. if i choose to just replace the boot am i able to do it myself(are there any special tools that make it easier). or should i just replace the whole axle. btw i drive a 94 civic dx, im sorry if im being vague but any help is greatly appreciated.

Definitely a DIY job. Read this thread (92-95 Civics are very similar):

Change the whole axle. You have to take the axle out of the car anyway to change the boot, and if it is the outer boot you have to take the inner joint and boot apart first to change the outer. It's a lot of work for not a lot of money saved buying a boot versus the whole axle.

I changed one on a 6th gen with nothing but some tools and the service manual PDF. Took about 6 hours because of a stubborn ball joint, but it wasn't that hard. DIY ftw.
