short or long gears
right now i have a cx tranny in my car
i was thinking about getting a ex/si tranny to replace it but my friend told me to keep it since im planning on boosting my hatch down the road
my question is iif there an advantage to having a longer geared tranny if your turboed?

With the longer gears, you'll be able to spend more time in each gear, and therefore more time in the powerband. Also, your top speed will be slightly higher (not that I condone even trying to find out what your car can actually do).
However, I'd like to point out there are plenty of people running boosted EX's, and I have yet to hear someone complain about the gearing being too short. Personally, I'd swap to an ex/si trans; you'll enjoy the shorter gearing both now and when you boost.

the cx tranny is complete crap. swap it out when you get a chance regardless if you intend to be under pressure or not. you can always compensate with better tires if traction becomes an issue. but the gearing itself of the ex/si will not hurt you.
so... what is the best way to add traction on the front tires of a 97 ex? I'm already spinn'n the tires when i take off hard.. I'm running yokohama yk520's in a 195/55-15
they were great when i first got them, but now that there a little aged, they feel like thier getting harder and not as sticky.

I wish 5th was stretched out more. Where am I ever going to race my car to where i'd ever red limit 5th EVER. I wish it was another 500-800rpms longer. Gas saving baby!
put a CX tranny 5th gear into your tranny. problem solved.
Did you mean rev limit 4th gear? You're never going to red line 5th gear bro. lol
Depends where that turbo makes power most larger turbos and bigger builds make power only up top so when shifting a long gear tranny you drop out of boost my vote would be an ex si and dont forget about an lsd if you are doing a big turbo build open diff will likely break and not to mention no traction off the line.
