Default what should i do
If i want a shorter shifter, can i just take a hack saw and saw a couple inches off and thread the end? will it hurt anything?
OR should i just buy a short throw?

do you want the shifter closer to the floor? if so then yes you will hack the shifter. but if your just wanting a shorter throw then i recomend an actual short throw shifter.
