Default Broke a strut today.....

so I'm driving home from work along the dirt road, not on the main highway yet, and I hear this clunking noise coming from the drivers side in the engine bay. I'm thinking, "maybe it's just some rocks/mud kicking up inside that got caught in the fender well. Well the noise stayed there so I pulled over and popped the hood.

It couldn't be any more obvious what the problem was. The rod inside the strut blew out and was sitting about 3" higher than it should be. The top of the rod was denting the inside of the hood and there's a visible dent on the outside of the hood, it probably would've gone through had I tried to drive home all the way like this.

This new suspension setup is not even 2 months. KYB AGX's in front and rear, H&R Sport Springs all around.

Here's some pics:

I have a carbon fiber hood coming in tomorrow. Thank god this happened before I installed it or KYB would be sending me a fat *** check. Insurance will cover the car rental I'll be getting tomorrow and I'll most likely have to hassle KYB to reimburse me for towing fees, new strut, and damage to hood(so most likely I'll be getting my hood repaired and repainted or just be getting a new factory hood period.) What if I was driving on the highway and this s*** just gave out and somehow caused me to go off in a ditch and totally screw up my car or crash into someone else?

Not even 2 months old and broke. I couldn't even tell you how it gave out, something on the inside of the shock broke is all I know.

that's very odd
i've never had a problem, exact same setup for almost 3 years now.

you must have gotten really unlucky and got a defective unit
i hope KYB treats you right. don't tell them you have lowering springs, that might void the warranty or something.

Holy crap! I have been running KYBs for 2-3 years now. That's definitely a defect! Good luck.

You need the proper rubber bumpers on the strut rods or stuff will break when it bottoms out. Though this does look like the top mount bushing may have just failed.
