Default 7 Volts?!

Alright.....this doesnt make any sense and i want to know what you guys think about it. I had wires for my amp run through the interior of my car, but they weren't that well hidden. I unhooked the wires from my amp, hid the wires, then hooked them back up to my amp, and now my amp wont power on. I used a volt meter, and on my battery it reads a perfect 12V, then but then when i hook it up to my positive and negative terminals of my amp, it reads between 5V and 7V. I checked the ground and it looks okay.....and evyerthing was working fine before i re-hid the wires. Anyone know why i'm not getting the full 12V to my amp?

im sure it has to be your ground, do you have it grounded at the same spot?..i no this happend to me when i was installing my system and i used the volt meter and it was my ground...what else did you change around? it wouldent make sence that you unhook your amp and hook it back up and its getting less power..its somthing that you unhook, recheck all your connections
