Default Need Advice on Head Unit

Alright, so yesterday I pulled out the factory stereo in my 2000 Civic EX Sedan, and put in a Pioneer DEHP6500 in its place. Get the thing in and hooked up, and it would seem the CD player wouldn't recognize any cd's *and* the volume control **** was broken. I got it used as payment for opening someones house for them (i work at pop-a-lock) so I think I got screwed on the deal.

The advice I need is if it would be worth trying to get a new faceplate/having someone look at the radio to try to fix it, or if I should just scrap the whole project and just go buy a new headunit from somewhere? If I should buy one, whats a good balance between quality and money?

I don't have any kindof system or anthing in my car, though I am planning on purchasing it piece by piece as I can afford it. But I want to get a stereo that is going to look clean and be good enough quality to hold onto for a couple years at least.

Thanks!

ya one thing ive learned unless its under warente just sell it as is! and buy a new radio...

i took in a sony that wasnt playing cds after buying it off ebay used.... took it into a repair shop and after paying like 20-25bucks just for them to look at it!!!!!! then i get a call back saying the cd mechanism is bad and its gonna cost 175bucks to replace it..... THE RADIO ONLY COSTED 115BUCKS BRAND NEW AT WALMART!!!!!!

huge rip off!!!!!!

but either sell it dirt cheap or just use it in a old beat down car for a decent just radio.....

sony, pioneer, jvc, jensen, and kenwood are all no good .. my opinion everyoen has there own though . and another thing you hooked it up yourself ? go do yourself a favour and buy yourself either a clarion or panasonic head unit about 250 bucks for a nice one that will last you for more than a few years. and that money is in canadian exchange rate is 111 right now so 111 bucks canadian is 100 american

I'm going to (hopefully) buy my car on Saturday. As far as I can tell, it comes with an aftermarket stereo. Since I already have my clarion to put in, if it comes with a working aftermarket stereo, you can have it for the cost of shipping. I'll let you know.

Kman I completly disagree. Clarion is one of the worst decks out these days. Don't get me wrong I was a big fan of clarion in the late 90's. I started my own shop in 02 and I had more proplems with clarion than other brand out. Jvc had dumb proplems also and sound qualty sucked. panasonic is decent but you pay for cosmics not a good headunit until you get up in price. I've sold pioneer now for 3 years strong and have had maybe 3 come back. no joke. Where clarion 1 out 4 would come back.

i lov emy clarion! ive had it for ruffly3-5 years ago... i only had one problem with it overheating when playing cds in my old truck... i figure bad air circulation back thier! cut a hole in the air duct tube behind it and never had a problem with it overheating again!
and only thing kinda wrong with it now is one of the color leds will kinda change color from time to time... but its just the led not the unit....

cd never skips a beat from my bass!!!!!!!!!

that would rock! just let me know. I am going to shop around a little bit, but if I can get something that will hold me over till I can really buy a stereo I love, that would be excellent!
