Default New Stereo

So, I'm someone that loves music. I drive a lot and I like to have a good stereo system. A friend of mine has a stereo he hasn't used in years and offered to give it to me and even hook it up because he knows how to do that. So, we took it apart the other day and then realized we need some other wire for the car to hook it because the Honda's didn't fit the one the stereo had. My question is: do I need anything else for it that I might be missing? And the speakers that are in the car are the factory ones. Should I get speakers as well, and if so, what kinds? Getting parts is pretty hard and the last thing I want to do is go through a German dealership because they charge a lot and its all in Euro.

Car: 2001 Honda Civic, EX

OK so are you just trying to install an aftermarket radio in place of the factory radio?

If so all you need is a wiring harness and a dash kit.

If you get Metra parts the part numbers are:

Dash kit - 99-7899
Wiring Harness - 70-1721

As for your speakers, they will be fine but you will notice an improvement in sound quality with upgraded speakers.

Dash kit; that's what I was missing. I think I'll see the difference in sound before upgrading the speakers. Last time I did the whole thing in my other car, it was totalled a week later, so I'm hesitate to do such a thing to my car now.

It's a JVC; but there's no IPOD connection or remote control, which isn't a big deal to me. I need it mainly for the AMP and to play MP3, WMA Cds

Thanks a lot!

Your sound will definitely be better with a deck and stock speakers, BUT it won't be that much better. You can get a good quality speaker for a good price.

If you really love your music I suggest upgrading the speakers as well. My '98 came with Honda/Pioneer OEM speakers.

OEM deck/speakers = garbage
Aftermarket deck/stock speakers = definite improvement, but still very limited
Aftermaket deck/speakers = night and day
