Cruise Control Not Working

Hi There! Newbie here. Just bought a '00 LX sedan. When the cruise button is pressed, the green light comes on; however, pressing the buttons on the steering wheel does nothing. Thoughts?

Does the green light in the gauge cluster come on when you hit "set" or is it just the green light on the cruse button?

Only the green light on the "Cruise" button just above the outside mirror controls. Nothing in gage cluster lights up....

Local mechanic was able to trace the problem to the computer... states that only Honda can get into the 'puter. Any thoughts or comments on this? I'm not familiar with Honda.
