did you do it with a timing light^^^^^?
I talked to my mechanic, and he said it didnt have to be. So we just moved the distributor cap over as far as it would go.

Well, we advanced it as far as it would go on the distributor. Afterwards it seemed like the car seemed to have just a little bit more low-mid range. Gas mileage went up, and it strats up a little harder in the winter.

Awsome!
I get around 22-23 mpg too and thought I have bad milage.
I don't mind having 32-35 mpg though.
Is it possible to get a DIY for this?

i advanced the timing and ran premium in mine and went from getting, on a city/highway mix, about 22-23 to an average of about 32-35, and i once calculated it on a road trip down from Reno (about a 4-5000 ft elevation drop) and i averaged over 50 mpg on the 1.5l. advance it to about 18* BTDC. but premium fuel is a must.

on a d16z6, you loosen the bolts holding the distributor, and rock it all the way back toward the firewall. it doesnt move far, but it makes a big difference in low-end power. but premium fuel is a must.

So if i was to advance the timing, i would HAVE TO use premium fuel?

Do I have to do anything to the ECU?

I was looking it up and found this
The last owner who had the car put a IPT ECU and there are a lot of wires there.
I'm just wondering if the ECU will retard the setting again if I didn't do anything to the ECU
Thanks!
