You should be able to hear it kick in at 5500 RPM. If you look at the upper left side of the cylinder head, you should see the vtec solenoid. Also, the throttlebodyis mounted sideways on the vtec, and vertical on non vtec.

if you are in Canada then you have a D16Y7 non vtec. only the Si has the D16Y8 in Canada and the SiR has the B16A2.... we get over charged for everything

just for future refrence guys...make sure anyone who asks this question is either in the US or driving a JDM or USDM car. EDM and canadian civics only have vtec if they are Si's. (aussies might have vtec in their EX's too...doubtful tho)
