i hate noises!! help me
i jsut got a 00 civic ex 5 speed about 2 weeks ago... it came with an a/m intake. and the little vacume port where the intake vacume hose should go there was a breather. now the brether was coverd in oil and tere was oil around it on the valve cover... it ran smooth and no real noises i could hear. i removed the breather and replaced the vacuume hose and about 2 or 3 days later it starts making noises... when i accelerate in any gear, when i get about about 3.4 grand in makes kind of a whistling noise and then stops when i let of the gas. is this ok? normal? or something could be wrong... also just noticed when i got home from work i was makin like a (damn this is stupid but its the only way i can explain it) "sicka sicka sicka sicka" but fast and real close to gether in idle. any have any ideas??? i could really use some input on this... thanks
Is there any oil on the air filter? Usually when you find oil on the breather hose, the PCV has gone bad or there is a clog somewhere. While the engine is running, pull the PCV valve out and check for vacuum. Then flick the PCV valve and listen for a rattle. If the rattle is there but the vacuum isn't then there might be a clog in the PCV somewhere or the PCV could also be bad.
damn... i jsut got a car... i dont kno too much about the pcv valve... i only know breaks and steering. is there anyway you could enlighten me a little more? by the way thanks. ok and do you mean the air intake filter? no. i bougt a new one when i got the car. or are you talkin about the breather filter... becuase that was all gunked up so thats why i put teh hose back on
Oil around the breather probably means the PCV like Agent said. PCV is Positive Crankcase Ventilation. It's a little elbow looking valve thingy that goes from the crankcase to the intake manifold.
The sicka, sicka is probably just a little Honda valve lash. My car does it too, but it's more like a "tick" than a "sicka". If it worries you , you can always check the valve clearances.
I suggest getting a Hayne's or Helm's manual.
