Access to cheap JDM parts straight from JAPAN!?!
I'm stationed at Misawa AB, Japan(I'm a F16 mechanic for the USAF, 35th MXS). Right around me are 3 pretty good sized junk yards, and on base people are coming and going all the time(cars are ridiculously cheap... ex: STI WRX runs just fine for 600 bucks because JCI was due next week, also GTRs don't cost more than 5 grand generally at the "Lemon Lot"). I can get parts for almost nothing. A few of my friends back home have already taken advantage of my situation, looking for trim pieces, headlights, etc. It's pretty much a hit or miss thing when checking the junkyard for a specific part, but at least there's that chance people could get their part for a good price, or have to jump through loop holes to get to it. If I start ripping up cars around here, start posting some stuff up for sale, do you guys think it'd be worth my time, would people buy these parts... straight from Japan? Before I fully become committed to doing this(I got a year left on my tour here), I want to know the best way to go about this, and if it'd be worth it. Any ideas or suggestions? Appreciate your time, have a good one back in the States for me!
First off, you can't sell anything off this site without 25 posts. Secondly, I wouldn't buy anything off anyone without pictures. Try and snap some photos of the whole car (maybe like a Civic Type R if you could find one) with a piece of paper on it saying USAFF16JOHNSON.
Do those and I'll be interested in a couple things possibly.
