which aftermarket 15" wheels for mileage?
Im running factory 13" rims and i dont think they came with the car. it doesnt get as good mileage as my brothers car(same car) 95 civic lx hes running HX 15's I want to go aftermarket preferably a black wheel but i dont want the ride to be rough like the 17s i tried ... whats a good size? im thinking 15s but not sure..
thanks
thanks
The 13" rims came with your car. Those rims shouldn't be causing you to have worse gas mileage than if you had HX wheels (HX are 14", not 15" btw).
I would look elsewhere for the problem.
For example, try doing a decent tune up (spark plugs - OEM NGK V-power, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, oil and oil filter change, and spark plug wires if needed). All really easy stuff and will cost probably around $100 total. Those things should all be maintained regardless so if it doesn't fix it, no big deal.
Also, make sure your alignment is good. If you have a bad alignment, you could see worse gas mileage.
Also, what kind of difference in gas mileage are we talking? What does his get and what does yours?

Also check your spark timing, that can reduce mileage. Like the other guy said, you should get good mileage on the 13s. Be sure they're properly inflated. Driving style makes a huge difference. For example, do not floor the gas when you start off and go up through the gears. It seems like you'll never get anywhere in a stock Civic that way but the fuel savings are considerable.
Yeah I doubt the wheels are the cause of the mileage difference. If you want to get better mileage by switching wheels, find the lightest set of wheels you can afford. The lightest you could probably afford might be those 13" wheels you have on your car actually...
Oh alright. We're not saying you shouldn't get new rims, we're just saying they won't raise your gas mileage.
What style rims do you like? And yea, 15" is a great size for your year Civic. Not too small, not too big, and offers a lot more ride comfort than 16" or 17".
If lightweight wheels are a concern for you, look into Rota (it's a brand name) wheels. Drag wheels are typically a pound or two heavier per rim than Rotas but are of similar quality and they offer similar style wheels. The Drag wheels are typically a little bit cheaper. One plus about Drags is that you can get them from discounttiredirect.com, which IMO is one of the best places to buy wheels/tires because they have really good deals on tires. When I was looking for Rotas I had a hard time finding them on any major company's website and for a good wheel/tire deal. This is why I decided on Drags ("DR-23") in the same style as the Rotas I originally wanted ("slipstream").

The wheel generally dosen't have much to do with the ride, it's the tire. Get the right tire size for a 15" wheel for your car and it'll be fine. A 195/50R15 all season tire will ride the best. As far as wheel, just find a wheel that you like. Check out www.tirerack.com for their wheel selection. You can also look up wheels made by Rota or Drag or Nippon Racing, all offer wheels in 15" sizes and in different designs and colors.
