Just swap in an entire low mileage engine. A JDM engine/ECU swap can present problems in passing emissions tests in some states.

yes a d15b will drop right in and yes your ecu will run it, but you will need to convert it to obd2, using your complete intake manifold, also you will need a obd2 to obd0 conversion plug for the dizzy, and add a knock sensor to the back of the block, also you will need to trick your ecu because a cel will come up for a crank position sensor, the obd0 and obd1 engines dont have them, they have cam position sensors, also the state of california will not pass your car for emissions since its a newer car with a older motor.

Dont do the d15B anything on your California licensed car man, seriously, find a cheap Y8, they are everywhere and cheap as HELL just buy one. D15 will not be worth the trouble at all and your car will not pass emissions. Its one thing to give up your emission passing capabilities for a B series swap where you will actually gain some power and what not but not for just getting an OLDER engine that will gain you nothing.

obd0= any civic older than 91
obd1= any 92-95 civic
obd2= any 96 and up

obd2a=96-98 civics
obd2b=99-00 civics

its the ecu/ computer system.

im not saying swaping the engine out for a d15b wont work, it just takes more to put an older engine into a obd2 car, the obd2 computer system requires more things (sensors) to work.

take nike's advise just find a y7/y8 block or you can put a new crank in yours.
