Is it time to let my 95 Civic go?
I have a 95 Civic LX with 185K miles on it. one cylinder is burning oil, a/c works only at night...if at all, the clutch feels like its going, paint is peeling, and it only passed the safety check because of a sympathetic shop owner. Within the last year I had the rack and both cv boots replaced, exhaust system, and a few things with the radiator (can't remember all).
Its gotten to the point I don't feel comfortable driving it. But I still get 300 miles between fill ups. I don't want to drive it to into the ground. And end up with a dead car in my driveway.
Would you say 185K miles is a good life span for a Civic?
Thanks
J

Oh man 185k miles is really only braking in the engine you should at least get 300k out of a honda to truly say its a good life span. if its giving you a lot of trouble try switching engines and let it be your fix up car

yeah, just swap the motor with something else more powerful, either that or with the same stock motor.. or just get ur motor rebuilt. things are going wrong all at once because their just wearing out, but even so, after it breaks down, motor swap and ur good for another 300k, i seen a civic with like 800,000 miles on it. 2 motor swaps, daily driver, frives 95 miles to work everyday and back.

seems like good mileage, civics should make more than that but i think it all depends on how the person before you drove it, the civic we had before used to chug oil at 89k, thats why we sold it hahaha. my bro drove it like the devil.

Your AC problem is likely just the compressor clutch relay. It's a super common issue.
Buy a can of this stuff called Restore (for 4 cylinder engines) and see if that helps with your oil burning.
Honestly, a clutch isn't that bad to swap out yourself. There are several DIYs on YouTube if you search.
