Default total confusion!

i'd like to know if anyone could help me. I recently blew my d16z6 in my 93 si. my mechanic is offering to put a 2000 d16y8 w/ 60k on the motor. he wants to charge me 1500 for everything. He did not mention anything about any problems considering mine is odb1 and the y8 is odb2. am i going to need a harness, ecu, and everything else from the y8 or can i re use what i have. bottom line is i have invested too much into this car before and after geting stolen. i'd like to go bigger but dont have the means for it. please let me know if anyone can shed some light on this topic. thanks!

i think you just need the harness, you can still run the same ecu as long as you have the harness. thats only $80.

do you think it sound like a fair deal as far as motor and labor goes? 900 for the motor, the rest is labor. And thanks for replying, i need to give him an answer by monday. Its what i get for topping out a stock motor on a hot day in florida. Those ebay ecu's are trouble!

you don't need to change your harness. you might need to change a few connectors but that's cheaper than an entire engine harness.

then why does everyone with y8's use a harness to convert to the z6 obd1? its easier to convert the ecu ofa z6 to y8? and i apologize for the misguided input [&:]im done giving advice if ima be wrong lol

I'd imagine you're talking about obd2 converting to obd1 a lot. It's because obd2 can't be chipped for turbo applications and such so you have to get a harness to convert to obd1.
