I'm tellin' ya - Edelbrock'd big-block V8 FTMFW!!
I know what yer sayin! We have a 69 impala with a small block 350, and you can even feel the secondaries open up on the quadrajet!

I do think vtec is kickass and if I could ever afford it I'd buy a vtec equipped honda.

It is VERY loud when the Vtec kicks in on my 08 Si. After I broke the car in and I went for a spirited drive I was smiling when I heard it kick in.

What a wonderful sound, haha.

On the 05 EX, your VTEC kicks in at 4500 rpms. Without at least an intake, it's almost impossible to hear the exact moment of changeover on a D17. If you drove an LX versus an EX back to back, you'd probabaly feel the difference in top end.
now is that nessasairly a bad thing? or does it matter?
Well, it's not "bad" that it kicks in early. The VTEC on the D17's is not a very aggresive change, so performance-wise, it yields little. The B series VTEC crossover (like the GSR in the first movie) is more aggresive, and it more performance oreinted. When I had my EM2, I liked the fact that it kicked in so early, because it wasn't hard to get there....even if I was the only one that could hear/ feel it . Point is, it's not a big difference on your motor....get an intake or exhuast and you'll start to hear the difference if you listen hard!
