Default 98 LX CIVIC - Cracked Exhaust Manifold - Alternate Solution ?

About 5 months back I replaced the Front O2 sensor and I noticed that the exhaust manifold was cracked. I did not have any problems except some additional engine noise on low speeds. Recently I started noticing drop in the miles per galon, maybe I am losing about 4 miles per gallon.

I am not interested in the EX exhaust conversion. Is it possible to seperate the header from the Catalytic converter ? If so, can I buy the after market exhaust manifold and attach it to the existing converter ?

If this is not possible, Can I buy both header and cat converter together and install it myself ? Will there be any issues doing these instead of doing the EX exhaust conversion ? Are there any other alternate solution other than doing the EX exhaust conversion? (Welding etc ?) . Current Milage on my car is about 181K.

Thanks

You can buy the manifold on eBay.

I'm not sure how durable it is, but if it's cast iron like I think it is then I don't think you'll have a problem. Generic cast iron turbo manifolds on eBay are known to be good, so I would assume that OEM replacement ones are too.

You can find used ones too, or look at a junkyard.

The manifold you need is the one for 96-00 Civic DX/CX/LX... which is the D16Y7 engine
