Newb Question about Megan or DC Header
Whats up everyone, im a couple days new to this board. Im currently looking into either a megan header or dc header for my 00' Ex. I was wondering if either of these require to take the cat off or if they bolt on to the stock on?
Nope, on the EX the cat bolts onto hte header between the header and hte midpipe, you wont need to remove the cat at all. And on a sidenoteif you are in California, you definitely need a DC header to pass emissions, but if you dont have emissions tests Megan will do you just fine (and you'll save quite a bit of $$$).
No. No matter what header you get for your car, you can keep the stock cat. Some headers aren't technically smog-legal, the same as some cat-back exhausts. For example, Megan Racing, Pace Setter, and several other brands aren't street-legal. That's not to say you won't pass emmisions testing with them, but there's a chance that you will fail. If you're worried about emmissions testing, go with either a DC header ($300+) or a Hedmen header (around $150); they're both50-state legal.
use the search feature of this site to look into it further; this question and topic has been covered extensively in threads, product reviews, and DIY's. it's worth it to make use of this site's search feature as it is a valuable resource. many times, it can save you the time you waste waiting for others to reply to you on a thread.
good luck, and welcome to the site. also, be advised that when changing out the header, you should be extremely careful with the #1 O2 sensor, which is located on the stock exhaust manifold. it is rather expensive to replace if broken.
