Default Wow... My muffler rusted off....

I got new springs, put my car on jackstands, took the tires off, noticed my muffler. It took two tugs to get it seperated from the rest of the piping, like, completely off. I'm somewhat suprised it didn't fall off while I was driving. Its in the shop getting a new muffler welded on now... I was just starting to save up for a new exhaust too. If this could have waited a MONTH I could have gotten acatback, but noooo...Bah. I'm really hoping it isn't going to sound ricey

Muffler before I even touched it (does explain why the car was starting to sound loud)

muffler probably wont sound much better than it doesn now.LOL

i would just have that muffler patched.... all it takes is a exaust pipe with a flange and weld it onto the muffler and the pipe. its doable if ya got a a friend with alittle welder. just unbolt the muffler and take it to a friend with a welder and patch it up cost ya like 5bucks for the pipe, just use a wire brush to brush off the rust around it mostly off so it will have a decent weld then just primer and paint over the weld to make it last alittle longer.

lol, does RIGHT now, aka without the muffler at all, or with my fart can barely hanging on? :P

Eh, bit too late now... I don't know anyone with a welder, and my grandma sort of flipped when she saw it and made me get it fixed.

lol well you could always take it to a exaust shop and ask how much for them to weld it up. i dont seee it being a problem if its not to badly rusted around the area.... tho they might just say no for you to just buy a new one and new pipes from them....

That is pretty much what they did...I would have taken it to another place, butthey are the only place within 20 miles thats open today. I've gotten pulled over for my intake being too loud (talk about a bored cop...), so I'm not really willing to drive around mufflerless. Stupid bright red car....

Booyah. They finally called me back.$90 for everything, and they are replacing everything from the resonator back. Kind of glad about that, the pipe the muffler was attached to was nasty. Kinda crazy that a 98 has rust this bad....

Yup, one step ahead of you. :P
The muffler has a2.25" inlet, so they welded it ontothe same size piping, then welded that onto the rest of the stock piping. Soaxle back is 2.25", I'm probably going to get the rest done fairly soon, they did a good job and they were decent price wise. I didn't want to go much bigger than 2.25" anyhow (heard some bad stories...) so I'm perfectly happy with everything thus far.

Muffler is suprisingly low. Doesn't sound ricey at all. I'm very happy with it. Wish it looked a bit better though... :P
