Default Painting Question

I was wondering what gives the paint it's shine and feel? I have waxed it and polished it, but it still isn't quite as reflective/glossy as the part that I didn't paint. Also, it feels slightly different... I can't really describe it except to say that it feels a bit more "dry."

If it matters, here are the layers on the part I painted...
primer / 1500 grit sandpaper
primer / 1500 grit sandpaper
paint / 1500 grit sandpaper
paint / 2000 grit sandpaper
paint / 2000 grit sandpaper
paint
clear / 2000 grit sandpaper
clear / 2000 grit sandpaper
wax
polish
wax

Now, I know that I was supposed to do only a polish then wax, but I fogot polish so I did accidentally did a layer of wax before it. That shouldn't make much of a difference though, should it?

Correct me if Im wrong but, doesnt the few layers of clear coat also add to the shine..??..along with protecting it of course.

I updated the "layer list" now, by the way. Sorry for forgetting the clear.
