Any large, flat surface will create drag. The Nascar Craftsman Truck series has a large, flat spoiler in order to turn what would otherwise be drag, into alot of downforce. At least, that's how I see it. I'm not the biggest expert on aerodynamics, so feel free to correct me.

well, who is then? i would think that while i understand that the swirl of air created by the tailgate being better than the turbulance created by the air running off the back of the open tailgate, but there is still some drag created by the uncovered tailgate...it would be like running a car at high speeds with the top up, or down...

 

well i bet it costs a fortune to fill that thing up on race gas. not to mention burning threw it in nothing flat

 

O yes...gas for trucks is ridiculous. My bfs truck right now costs atleast $80 to fill up. And he ordered a new programmer and will soon be forced to run 91 octane.
