So 3 weeks later (and many frustrating calls which eventually ended with me tracking down the service department supervisor), the dealership finally got the work orders from the warranty company for how they wanted my engine repaired or replaced. Apparently they sent my engine out to have my cylinders machined and new rings put in today......It was expected to arrive at the machine shop tonight.....Hopefully I'll get my car back by the end of the week. The service supervisor told me that the reason it was taking so ridiculously long was because the repairs are so costly and major (and out of the ordinary for them) that the warranty company supposedly had to decide what they wanted to do....yeah...right.........Now my main concern at this point is what kind of warranty (if any) they'll put on the work they did to my engine....

Im going to step in with my knowledge of dealing with bad engines. Your piston ring is not shot. Trust, me, you would KNOW IT. You would see this amazingly large cloud of blue smoke out the back of your tail pipe from every stop light. What if its a bad dizzy or coil? If the motor and or valves were shot you would hear a ticking. But I dont think you have bent valves because if I remember correct, K-Series motors are no- interference so there wouldnt be any cause for piston slap.

Change of plans! Got a call today from the dealership, the warranty company out of the blue, decided the were just going to put in an engine from a totaled out type s instead of fixing mine. My "new" engine will have about 30k fewer miles on it than my current one.Score!

New engine = better than f'n with your old one. Those FORD boys seem to know nothing about your car. I bet they were afraid to learn about efficiency and didn't want to open your motor. So they just want to play the PLUG-N-PLAY game.
