Default vtec and vtec-e

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the difference between a vtec and vtec-e... any difference in there performance or anything? I know a vtec-e is for gas saving but thats really it... I would greatly appreciate it for anyones help. Thank you

the VTEC-E runs on 12 valves untill 2800rpm then runs on 16 valves on a small cam lobe till vtec at 5500rpm then it is in regular vtec till redline.

non VTEC-E runs on 16 valves through out it's operation and hits a bigger cam lobe at 5500rpm

And yet the Vtec-E engine (the d16y5 anyway) has a bigger cam lobe than the y8. And, ricerburner, the "e" is for efficiency and the 1996-2005 civic Hx also had it. Along with the 2001-2005 civic Ex.
