Default 97 DX sluggish acceleration/horrid gas mileage

Hey everyone, so I'm pretty much at my wits end right now. For the past few weeks I've been trying to fix my sluggish acceleration problem and nothing I do seems to fix anything. So far what I've done is a full tune up incl. new fuel filter, oil change, spark plugs/wires, dizzy cap/rotor, I've replaced the manifold converter assembly AND I've replaced the shift solenoid.

After I replaced the manifold converter assembly it got rid of the clicking noise and it kind of fixed the throttle response but still it's NOT normal at all. I can barely make it up hills without gaining substantial speed beforehand and I can't launch to save my life.

I genuinely have NO idea what it could be, however my dad said that it could be my fuel injectors. I just can't keep replacing things and wasting money on **** that I don't need.

Any help is appreciated.

you might want to try a compression test just to rule low compression out.

The CEL is not on? If it is pull the codes of course.

A major thing that can make the car sluggish with no CEL is incorrect timing. Also check for mouse nests in the intake.

^Agreed. That sounds like the problem I had when my ignition timing was waaay off.
