It could very well be the pickup coil, you are going to want to look into the Camshaft and Crankshaft position sensors. These are the pickup coils the PCM uses to determine where the cylinders are and when to send the spark. The problem is that the only way that i know of to test these sensors is to use a scope since thier values change so quickly that a meter won't be able to read it.

Went to close the hood in the dark and with my bright LED headlamp I noticed this crack in what I believe to be the TOP of the pickup coil? Do you think it's toast?

my 95 civic had or might still have the same problem... it just all of the sudden stalls at low rpm... for mine it was the ignition coil inside of the distributor. but im not sure what is causing it... i changed all the belts..

Will have a new igniter tomorrow am at Honda dealer. Parts guy mentioned that the Main Relay could be the culprit? Would I have battery voltage across some of the terminal with a bad main relay? I would think not. Anyhow I did have battery voltage across some of terminals. Will search for main relay failure.

Problem solved. The ICM or Igniter Control Module or unit was bad. Started immediately. Thanks for all your help and Suggestions!!

Default Having a similar problem

My civic has been very good to me up until now. Usually it starts but every once in a while it won't. It turns over fine but won't fire. Yesterday it started the 2nd or 3rd try but sputtered and died. Right after that it started like normal and hasn't done it since? It seems to be very tempermental. I'm guessing it is fuel related but do you think it could be something simple like a relay or maybe even my fuel filter needs replaceing or worse like the injectors being fowled up? I don't think it is the pump or it wouldn't run completely fine when it starts up right?
Anything would help, thanks
