well this morning i emptied out some oil since it was way too full and let the car run for a while and the smoking went away. i had to replace my plugs as well cuz they were fouled and now everything is running smooth

There is a water passage from the head to the intake manifold at the very back (cylinder #4 end) and like 94 suggested, if the intake manifold gasket leaks there it will suck coolant into the engine through the intake. Also the little IACV and FITV (if equipped) can leak though this seems unlikely since they were OK on the original engine before it blew.

FITV = Fast Idle Thermal Valve. It bypasses more air past the throttle plate to increase idle speed when the coolant is very cold for starts in the winter. It closes shortly after a cold start, leaving idle in control only by the electric IACV system. Some versions after 1996 have a plastic FITV mounted on the thermostat housing. The FITV only opens below 60 F. If you are in a warm climate you can just blank it off.
