Default Distributor Problem

Well was cleaning up the engine compartment. After I was finished I went to start it and it ran fine. But as soon as i backed it up it started missing. Unplugged number 3 and that was the one. Took apart the dist cap and parts fell out. Seems the phillips screw holding the rotor on fell out. It broke the plastic cover that is just behind the rotor. Would it be a problem to remove this completely? Also what would be a nice upgrade over a stock distributor?

Replace the rotor, cap, and inner cover. Do not run without the inner cover unless you want sparks flying all over insider the distributor (=distributor death).

Call the local Honda dealership or order from Majestic Honda online.

well its been 2 days and seems to not be sparking. I think it is a shield to keep water from dripping on the coil. Mine seems to be sealing.

Is there a aftermarket coil pack that can be mounted externally?

It's just a matter of time before the lack of a cover causes you problems. I can't imagine it's too expensive.

I just picked up a different starter but no coil in it. So if mine shoots craps ill use this one and run a external coil. Also got a brand new starter all for 30$

I will take it apart this weekend and check out the distributor and reseal the cap. To make certain it dont leak.
