Engine Tick Tick Tick sound
Hey fellow civic owners. Like I said before I just got my civic coupe brand new. I turned on the car two days ago and the car's engine had a tick tick tick sound. My dad said it might the lifter going up and down because of the oil not getting in place in time. The noise left after I drove the car. I got the car a week ago and already have 450 miles. Before the sound I've never revd it more than 25000 rpms. I've tried to stay under the 50 mph 500 miles rule, although I ocassionally went up to 57 once or twice. I hope this car isn't a lemon.

They don't have lifters. There is a screw adjustment on each rocker arm to set the amount of clearance when the valve is closed. Thus the valves have to be adjusted periodically using a simple procedure. Take it back to the dealer and have them double check valve adjustment.

if it's a new civic, it's highly unlikely that the valve lash is incorrect. do you live in a cold climate? when motors are cold, clearances are looser, that combined with the lash adjustment designed to compensate for metal expansion with heat is the likely culprit. if they vehicle is more than two years old however, the valve lash may need to be adjusted. very simple procedure, only requires some feeler gauges and a 10mm wrench, or you could pay the dealer an arm and a leg if you anticipate having any warranty disputes. however if the problem ONLY happened once while cold then immediately went away, worry not, cold metal shrinks, engines make lots of noises while cold. pistons can even be heard slapping around in the cylinder on occasion.
