Default Help Timing Belt Question

Hope you guys can help me. My husband has a 2004 Honda Civic with 75000 miles on it and we have no idea when to replace the timing belt on this thing or if it's covered under warranty. The instruction manual says 100,000 miles but it also says that's the 1st time you need an oil change which is obviously incorrect so any comments would be greatly appreciated. We're just worried because we've heard if the timing belt goes out it blows the engine (neither of us are car buffs) and we really don't need that happening. Also could you name the price of them are they really $400? Thanks

timing belts are nothing to play around with.

if it's past due to change them, then change them IMMEDIATELY.

look in the owners guide and look at the maintenance schedule. if it says 100,000 miles, then that's when to change them. if it says 60,000 miles then get to a dealership QUICK.

Honda timing belts are usually needing replacement around 70,000. Its not like you need to RUSH to the dealer tomorrow to get it done, just get it taken care of soon. Change the timing belt and water pump at the same time.......Make sure you use HONDA timing belt and HONDA water pump. This should cost you like 500 bucks or so at the dealership, but its well worth it as it wont need to be done for another 70K.

I have a 97 EX and my manual says to change at 90,000 miles. I changed it at 109,000 miles. I would check with the dealership. They should be able to tell you when it needs to be changed.

98 DX coupe, manual said 105k, changed at 115k...

in all likeliness, your manual saying 100k is correct, and chances are, it will not fail before then.

if you were wise and purchased an extended warranty on the car (7year or 100k) if it fails before then, it is covered under extended warranty.

if you are still in your original warranty period (i believe its 5 year or 60k? though dunno) and it fails, it is also covered then...

and yes, should cost you anywhere from 375 - 425 or so
