Default high pitch noise when accelerating

i have a 98 civic dx and lately whenever i accelerate in any gear the car makes a high pitch noise. The noise doesn't happen when i barely acclerate or accelerate hard. Any suggestions?

Exact same thing with my car, I am guessing with myn its from my aftermarket air intake intake from the sounds of it and other HCF members have told me the same.

check your drive belts for correct tension... they tend to scream when there not happily tightend
..... does it seem like it's comming from the transmission by any chance? how long has your car been making the noise?

With a short ram or cold air intake, you will get a turbo like whistle, albeit much much quieter than with a turbo... the volume of the sound can very from car to car, and with different filters... I had an S&B funnel ram filter on my escort that whistled really loud, switched it out to an APC for no real reason, and it sounded totally different...

My civic has an AEM shortram, and it has a whistle on idle, and under a part throttle situation, only in a specific throttle position, not under WOT...

Not sure if that helps or not, possible cause though.

I also had my Idler pulley bearings go on me and when it started to happen it whined really loud, got louder with RPM, I kid you not I had people asking me if I had a super charger on it, so I left it alone until it siezed and popped the AC belt... I would have never just left it alone if the belt had been on anything more than just the compressor...

That's why the stock intake seems so complicated and restrictive, it's designed to suppress noise since most car buyers don't want to hear it.
