I have a 1999 Honda Civic Sedan Automatic.

The car works fine but there is one wierd problem.

If I floor the gas pedal ("pedal to the metal"), the car will stay at 50 or 60 (I don't remember) with high rpm UNTIL I let go of the gas & do it again then it works. Now if I were to 1%-90% pedal pressed down it would go passed 50 or 60& the rpm would go back down quick (car would work as normal).

Why is that? People tell me its electrical & dashboard related, & I'm like really? Feels like air problem. I don't know help me out. :-)

 

Is the CEL on and / or the D4 light flashing? The transmission may be operating in safe mode due to a sensor problem.

 

Hey thanks for replying, the CEL is on but the D4 is not flashing. (That is so cool I never knew it could flash & go into safe mode, sweet)

I think & I don't remember exactly but if I pedal to the medal & it's on 50 or 60 mph, I think the CEL will start flashen. I think that the CEL turned off too right after & then came back on later. I'm not sure tho. I don't think the CEL was on before when I first got the car, but it always couldn't go past 50 or 60when floored. That's when I started to see CEL.

This car was involved in a crash on the driver side engine bay, until the body shop folks fixed it.

Run to an auto parts store and have them scan it to see what's causing the CEL.

If the CEL is flashing the engine is in safe mode, the computer is limiting revs/HP to prevent damage, a number of things could cause this.

 

Wrong. Flashing CEL means misfire. Check the ignition components. I'd check spark plugs and plug wires first. Cheapest to troubleshoot. If not that, check the distributor cap, rotor, and maybe the ignition control module.

 

Okay I will test them out (I'll wait till I get some more $ to get testing tools)
