Default inspection bad news, need struts..

hey all, I had to get my 95 cx saftey inspected and it turns out i need new front tires, new rear struts and a gas tank vent hose...bummer. How hard is it to replace struts? I've never done it before and i'm kind of lost. I do most ofmy repairs myself but if its too hard i guess I'll have to take it in. would it be easier installing a new set of coil overs instead?
thanks for the help

no, 90% of the work is exactly the same, and coilovers will be harder on your wallet [8D]

it's not hard to do, you just need good tools (air tools) and a friend, preferably one who has done it before)

Unless you encounter a bunch of stuff rusted together, it's not hard. You need the tools that compress the spring down but you can borrow that from a parts store. Would be about the same replacing them with performance struts, most of the difficulty is going to be getting the old ones out.

This is the big problem with working on suspension components on old cars, alot of the time stuff is rusted together. My recommendation for the spring compressor is to take it to Car-X (thats where I take struts) and have them swap the springs. Me and my buddies were doing struts and couldn't get the spring compressor to work (didn't help that we were missing on of the rod things). We took it to Car-X and the guy did it for $25/axle cash.
