Default K&N Panel Air Filter

Is the K&N Air Filter (Panel) Worth the 40 bucks or however much it costs? I was looking to get a little more torque, better fuel economy, etc. Should I try it out or just stick to the FRAM stuff?

K&N is always a good move. If you got the extra coin, go for a short ram intake or a cold air intake, with a good quality filter (if you get a cheap intake system from eBay, make sure you have enough scratch left over to buy a name-brand filter for it)

I got a short-ram intake from ebay, bolted on a good filter, and it made a noticable difference in milage, and torque. Plus the slight whistling sound a short-ram intake produces is kinda cool!

I agree. K&N filters have been proven over and over to be great filters. Ask anyone. Whatever you pay is worth it.

jeff_o: I have a 2001 Civic LX

Is everyone referring to the CAI/SRI air filter set-up or are you referring to the oem-type replacement?

Anyone know where i can get one for cheaper than what autozone/Advance sells it for?

can you clean the panel filters? i'm not sure. if you can, then get a panel filter. if you can't clean them, then get a short ram intake or cold air intake because the cleanable filter will eventually pay for the difference in price by itself.

if you want quality and reliability: go k/n
if you want durability and proven results: go k/n
if you want a stock sound unlike aftermarket intakes: go k/n drop-in

but unless you're filter is really, really dirty right now, then it doesn't make an incredible power improvement like some people say using their butt dyno.

"can you clean the panel filters? i'm not sure."

yes, the drop-in replacement K&N filters are cleanable, same as all other K&N air filters. They will make a difference, but the stock intake assemby is restrictive, so for best results I would recommend a complete aftermarket intake system. However don't limit yourself to the K&N brand name. There are plenty of other good quality cleanable/re-usable brands
